Job Description

• We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer with strong technical skills and practical experience building, deploying, and maintaining scalable backend systems.
• The ideal candidate must have successfully developed and deployed at least one live, production-ready system.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance backend applications.
• Build and manage RESTful APIs and integrate third-party services where required.
• Design, manage, and optimise databases using MySQL and other relevant database technologies.
• Develop and maintain backend services using Python and Django.
• Identify and resolve bugs, performance issues, and system vulnerabilities.
• Implement appropriate authentication, authorisation, and data protection measures.
• Deploy applications to production environments and provide ongoing maintenance and technical support.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product designers, and other team members to deliver functional solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation, write automated tests, and follow software development best practices.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in backend development.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Django.
• Practical experience with MySQL, including database design, queries, optimisation, and management.
• Demonstrable experience developing, deploying, and maintaining live systems in a production environment.
• Good understanding of RESTful API design, integration, and documentation.
• Knowledge of software development principles, data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with Git or other version control systems.
• Understanding of web application security, authentication, authorisation, and data validation.
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with additional backend frameworks or technologies.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, or other database and caching technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and application deployment automation.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks and test-driven development.
• Familiarity with Linux server administration, Nginx, and application server configuration.
• Understanding of application monitoring, logging, performance tuning, and system scalability.
• Experience working with Agile development methodologies.
• A portfolio of deployed applications or contributions to relevant software projects.
