About the Role As part of your Bachelor thesis in the field of interior design, Autoliv South Germany invites you to develop a design concept for a modular steering wheel in commercial vehicles. The concept should be based on a modular system with three different diameters and address ergonomic, HMI, and production-cost considerations, delivering at least one near-series variant.
What You'll Do
- Develop an interior design concept for a modular steering wheel for commercial vehicles based on a system with three diameters.
- Explore variable form with two, three, or four spokes; create modular variants with zero, one, or two switches per diameter; align switch and spoke designs.
- Consider design options such as leather cover and PU surfaces; ensure ergonomic fit and HMI integration.
- Develop at least one near-production variant taking production requirements and Design-to-Cost into account.
- Collaborate with international teams and communicate in German and English.
What We're Looking For
- Studies: Transportation Design / Vehicle Design, Industrial Design / Product Design, Industrial Design Engineering, Mobility Design or comparable programs.
- Proficiency with typical design tools (e.g., Blender or equivalent).
- Strong sense for form, aesthetics, proportions and technical understanding.
- Creative and conceptual, solution-oriented thinking; careful, diligent and independent working style.
- Enjoy working in international teams; strong German and English communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Sensitivity for material surfaces such as leather and PU; awareness of production feasibility is a plus.
