About the Role The Avionics Engineer will design, integrate, test, and maintain Stratolaunch's hypersonic avionics with a focus on Telemetry for the Mach 5+ Talon testbeds. This role collaborates with system owners and test ranges to ensure telemetry, instrumentation, and network assets meet mission requirements. What You'll Do
- Contribute to instrumentation, network, & telemetry (data) system requirements development, architecture design, testing, & operation for local and extended range missions.
- Support flight operations by ensuring data system assets are prepared for flight test.
- Support selection of and harness design for sensors, data acquisition units, computers, network switches, and other equipment.
- Manage and configure the aircraft instrumentation system to provide real-time data for mission monitoring and post-flight analysis.
- Develop and maintain software tools, including configuration management, simulation, deployment, and analysis tools.
- Determine, document, and manage subsystem requirements for each new configuration.
- Develop and support instrumentation, network, & telemetry tests as required.
- Support integration testing such as power checks, sensor calibration, and equipment checkout.
- Collaborate with design engineers, network engineers, and technicians to accomplish goals.
- Prepare data system material for design reviews, flight readiness reviews, and post-operation reviews.
- Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments. What We're Looking For
- Experience in Telemetry, Instrumentation, or Network engineering in an operational or regulated test environment.
- Experience with Ethernet networking and familiarity with TCP, UDP, multicasting, etc.
- Experience integrating data acquisition instrumentation (Analog, discrete, and digital protocols such as ARINC 429) from distributed systems with mission control software.
- Knowledgeable with RF devices such as transmitters, receivers, encoders/decoders, or similar.
- Experience with data acquisition systems and dataloggers.
- Experience writing system requirements; excellent written & verbal communication.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the SECRET or above level.
- Programming skills in at least one language (C/C++/C#, Python); familiarity with CI toolchains such as Jenkins or Bamboo; experience with Git; MS Office.
- Preferred: experience with complex payloads, hypersonic systems, and flight test instrumentation; etc. Nice to Have
- Experience with complex payload and/or guided systems.
- Flight test program instrumentation system experience.
- Harness design and manufacturing for aircraft.
- Aircraft/launch vehicle development.
- RF telemetry end-to-end testing; IRIG 106 CH4/CH10/CH7 standards.
- Active TS/SCI security clearance; hands-on aircraft build, piloting, flight test.
- Databases (relational, document, time-series) and data acquisition DUs from Curtiss-Wright or Safran; JAMA/Doors; Mission Control Room console experience. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: Level II: $101,100 – $146,500/year; Sr: $120,500 – $158,000/year.
