Job title: Automotive Technician (Apprentice II / Automotive Tech / Automotive Technician Sr.)
About the Role This role supports Entergy's fleet and outage readiness programs as an Automotive Technician aligned to Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 1/2 tracks, with potential progression to Automotive Technician Apprentice II, Automotive Tech, or Automotive Technician Sr based on experience. The position primarily services Entergy-owned, leased, and rented equipment, including hydraulic and aerial devices, across on-site locations in Texas, with storm-response duties as needed.
What You'll Do
- Perform tasks and meet qualifications for Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 1 and Apprentice 2 for all Entergy equipment
- Lead or assist in complex repairs and routine maintenance; work under supervision of qualified technicians, manufacturer or vendor representatives when needed
- Travel to job sites in Entergy vehicles; interact with customers to minimize line interruptions
- Use diagnostic tools, schematics, and DVOM to identify and correct issues in electrical systems, engines, transmissions, and aerial systems
- Repair internal combustion engines, exhaust and emission control systems; perform chassis repairs on steering and suspension; basic cutting and welding and fabrication
- Research equipment information from fleet/manufacturer sources for identification info, inspection procedures, fluid capacities, and torque specs
- Read codes, perform function tests, and interpret results; operate task-specific tools such as torque wrenches, dial indicators, and dial calipers
- Maintain readiness for off-system storm response; will be accompanied by a more senior Automotive Hydraulic Technician and may be asked to support storms as needed
- Complete required training and certifications: bucket/digger/PDM training when available; IFPS certification required prior to promotion; Class A CDL within 6 months; automotive HVAC certification within 12 months; ability to pursue additional certifications as offered
What We're Looking For
- Experience: at least 2 years in Automotive Hydraulic Technician Apprentice 1 or equivalent; demonstrated progression to Apprentice 2 or Automotive Technician track
- Technical knowledge: proficient with electrical diagnostics and DVOM usage; ability to read electrical schematics; understand sensors, switches, and circuit components; advanced understanding of internal combustion engines, emission control, and hydraulics
- Tools & procedures: capable of using electronic sources (fleet manuals, manufacturer websites, online manuals) for information; familiar with torque specs, fluid capacities, and maintenance procedures
- Certifications: IFPS certification required before promotion from Apprentice 1; new hires at Apprentice 2+ must obtain IFPS within 6 months (company may cover up to two attempts); Class A CDL within 6 months; HVAC certification within 12 months (EPA approved such as ASE or MACS)
- Personal: supervisory capabilities; strong safety mindset; responsive, courteous service to customers
- Other: willingness to complete manufacturer bucket, digger, and PDM training as classrooms are available; ability to support off-system storms
