Job title: Automotive Hydraulic Mechanic

About the Role

The role performs maintenance, inspection, and repair on Entergy's vehicle fleet assets, including electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems, as well as gas and diesel engines and mobile hydraulic systems used on aerial devices, digger derricks, medium/heavy duty trucks, light duty vehicles, forklifts, and off-road equipment. This position supports all Entergy equipment and will travel to job sites, operate a field service vehicle, and work in a shop as needed while maintaining safe and environmentally clean work sites.

What You'll Do

  • Perform basic mechanical tasks using mechanic hand tools.
  • Competently operate required computer-based applications.
  • After proper training, perform routine maintenance and inspection of Entergy leased, owned, and rented equipment.
  • Assist with Federal Department of Transportation inspections and maintain accurate records for DOT and Entergy.
  • Dismantle vehicles and equipment for repairs; complete work orders with proper coding and information.
  • Dismantle, load/unload using forklift or overhead crane; order parts and ensure returns of unused/miss-ordered parts.
  • Verify diagnoses and repairs by operating vehicles/equipment as needed; complete hazard assessments before work and as jobs change.
  • Attend monthly/weekly safety calls and complete safety/industry training; maintain a clean, safe work area; perform shop and vehicle audits.
  • Communicate with Fleet Supervisor, OC, and local Line Supervisors; comply with Environmental, Safety, State and Federal regulations; and be willing to work extended hours and storm travel outside Entergy territory.

What We're Looking For

  • At least 1 year of automotive industry experience or an automotive-related certificate/degree from an accredited institution; supply personal hand tools up to 1/2" drive; all specialty tools provided.
  • Self-motivated, able to work without direct supervision; team player.
  • Within 90 days of employment, obtain and maintain a DOT medical card; within 365 days of 21st birthday or hire date, obtain a Class A CDL license.
  • Within 90 days, obtain an air brake inspector certification; within 90 days, know company safety rules for Automotive Hydraulic Mechanic and be able to administer resuscitation and first aid; within 30 days, know AED and firefighting equipment.
  • Willingness to complete all industry certifications and manufacturer trainings identified by Entergy.
  • Transportation Mechanic I-II: 3–5 years’ hands-on experience maintaining hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems on mobile hydraulic and medium/high-duty trucks; Class A CDL and medical certification or ability to obtain within 6 months; welding/fabrication experience; ability to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions.

Nice to Have

  • Fluid power certification and advanced hydraulics experience preferred for progression beyond Apprentice 1; not required for Apprentice 1.
  • Additional certifications or trainings related to safety, welding, or equipment operation.
