Job title: Automation System Engineer (f/m)
About the Role Corning is seeking an experienced Automation System Engineer to lead development projects from concept through prototyping, testing and commissioning. You will shape the technical direction, select technologies and components, and work in an R&D environment that blends automation, software, electronics and measurement systems to create new devices and processes.
What You'll Do
- Lead prototype projects from a technical perspective, from concept to realization
- Define operating concepts, control architecture and project execution approach
- Select technologies, components and solutions in automation, controls and electronics
- Design and supervise development of control systems based on PLC, motion, machine vision, HMI/PC and other control platforms
- Participate in building, commissioning and testing prototypes of new devices and processes
- Collaborate with process engineers, metrology specialists, designers and programmers to achieve the best solution
- Solve complex technical problems and contribute with your experience
- Create and maintain technical documentation, test plans, reports and safety analyses
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal/external experts, including international partners
What We're Looking For
- Extensive experience in designing and developing automation systems, devices or prototype stations
- Experience leading projects from concept through selection to commissioning and testing
- Very good knowledge of control systems and PLC programming
- Experience defining control architecture and selecting automation and electronics components
- Ability to work in an R&D environment with no ready-made schematics or standard answers
- Practical knowledge of drives, vision systems, machine safety and integration of multiple technologies
- Strong analytical problem-solving and technical decision-making
- Very good command of English
Nice to Have
- Experience with Beckhoff, Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley or COD
