About the Role
Within the operations department and reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, your role is to improve the efficiency and reliability of our plant manufacturing processes by applying automation. You will support the production and engineering teams through line breakdowns, fault finding of root causes, and designing the issue out in the shortest period possible. You’ll run automation projects to upgrade equipment and control systems, ensuring none of our equipment becomes obsolete. You will also be involved in projects at our sister site in Bradford and support activities such as 5S, SMED, and Centre lining. What You'll Do

Provide technical support daily across electrical, mechanical and automation disciplines.

Configuration and programming of controllers and visualizations using Siemens (Simatic Manager, TIA Portal, WinCC Flexible).

Project planning and programming of drive technology and servo drives, with emphasis on SEW Drive and Allen Bradley systems.

Development, conception, design and creation of hardware/circuit diagrams.

Automation troubleshooting following a recognisable troubleshooting process.

Experience with bus systems such as Profinet and Profibus, with knowledge of ASI and CAN bus.

Project Management and Project Coordination of site automation projects.

On-site installations including Factory Acceptance Tests, Commissioning, and Team Training.

Involvement with the sister site in Bradford.

Interaction with multiple stakeholders daily: Manufacturing, Engineering, Warehouse, Supply Chain, sister plants (Europe), and Suppliers.

Act as a subject matter expert and mentor engineers within the business. What We're Looking For

Strong background in automation engineering within manufacturing.

Proficiency with Siemens automation tools (Simatic Manager, TIA Portal, WinCC).

Experience with drive technology and servo drives (SEW Drive, Allen Bradley).

Knowledge of Profinet/Profibus and bus technologies (ASI, CAN bus).

Ability to plan and coordinate automation projects and perform troubleshooting.

Excellent stakeholder interaction and communication skills.

Willingness to be on site at Chesterfield and collaborate with multiple sites.

Ability to guide/mentor engineers. Nice to Have

Experience with 5S, SMED, Centre lining, Process Control Automation, product defect identification systems, and component lifespan identification.
