Automation and Digital Transformation Engineer

Samsung Austin Semiconductor is seeking an Automation & Digital Transformation Engineer to develop, support, and improve automation systems used in semiconductor manufacturing. As part of a small, collaborative engineering team, you will translate manufacturing and operational needs into practical technical solutions. Your work will span new fab system startup, complex troubleshooting, and ongoing system improvement. You will partner with internal customers, vendors, and headquarters teams to strengthen system reliability, improve functionality, and support efficient manufacturing operations. This role offers the opportunity to solve challenging engineering problems, investigate how interconnected systems behave, and help shape automation capabilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Role and Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Develop automation solutions: Translate customer and operational requirements into technical designs, and develop, test, and implement solutions that address manufacturing needs.

  • Troubleshoot interconnected systems: Investigate complex issues across applications, databases, infrastructure, and system interfaces to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

  • Support new fab startup: Collaborate with headquarters deployment teams, vendors, and local stakeholders on system setup, integration, testing, and startup readiness.

  • Sustain and optimize systems: Maintain existing automation systems, resolve functional issues, and identify opportunities to improve reliability, performance, and maintainability.

  • Coordinate with vendors: Partner on troubleshooting, configuration, deployment, and resolution of technical issues.

  • Maintain technical documentation: Keep system configurations, operating procedures, troubleshooting guidance, and change documentation accurate and current.

  • Communicate with stakeholders: Explain technical findings, solution options, and implementation progress clearly to engineering teams and internal customers.

  • Skills and Qualifications What You’ll Bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Computer Science, with Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred.

  • At least one year of relevant professional experience in automation engineering, software development, system integration, or technical systems support.

  • Experience analyzing complex technical systems and understanding how components, interfaces, and dependencies interact.

  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills, including a structured approach to root cause analysis and problem resolution.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Python, including experience with data processing or scientific computing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, or Polars.

  • Foundational knowledge of container technologies and orchestration tools, including Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Foundational knowledge of SQL and relational databases.

  • Familiarity with Linux environments and basic command-line operations.

  • Ability to translate customer needs into practical technical solutions and collaborate across teams.

  • Clear communication, attention to documentation, and a commitment to responsive customer support.

Helpful Additional Experience:

  • Experience with PostgreSQL or NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and Cassandra.

  • Experience supporting automation systems in semiconductor manufacturing or another complex production environment.

  • Experience with system integration, production troubleshooting, or new system deployment.
