About the Role ACU is seeking an Athletic Trainer to prevent, care for, and rehabilitate injuries and illnesses involving student-athletes as part of the athletics medical staff. The role includes clinical supervision of MAT students, medical documentation, facility and inventory management, and collaboration with the sports medicine team to ensure safe and effective care during practices and competitions.
What You'll Do
- Primary coverage of assigned sports during practices and games, with additional assignments as needed by the Associate AD for Sports Medicine.
- Injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
- Coordinate with strength and conditioning staff to develop preseason, postseason, in-season and off-season conditioning programs to optimize conditioning and reduce injury risk.
- Construct and apply protective devices including taping, bracing, splints, and casts; monitor safety of environment and equipment.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records including injury and rehabilitation documentation; manage inventory and medical information releases; assist with medical claims and payments; support drug-testing programs for NCAA, WAC and ACU policies.
- Provide education and counseling to student athletes and coaches; supervise MAT students and ensure CAATE standards compliance.
- Serve as a liaison among physicians, athletes, parents and coaches; coordinate referrals to general practitioners and specialists as needed.
- Ensure presence at practices, conditioning sessions and games; cover additional sports as assigned.
- Assist in recruiting and clinical supervision of MAT students for professional careers in athletic training.
What We're Looking For
- Current licensing or ability to apply for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation license for Athletic Training; NATA/BOC credentialed.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathologies, kinesiology and biomechanics; ability to assess injury/illness and determine extent.
- Experience with medical documentation; ability to create and maintain medical records.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; ability to make decisions; supervision/management skills; ability to work with others.
- Willingness to be present for all practices, conditioning sessions and games; strong teamwork and reliability.
- Commitment to ACU mission and CAATE standards.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary is contingent on experience, skills, certifications, and qualifications of the candidate; ACU covers expenses for NATA, BOC, licensure and CEUs.
