Associate Scientist — Coatings and Formulations

The Chemours Titanium Technologies Product Development organization, located at the Chemours Discovery Hub in Newark, Delaware, is seeking an early-career Associate Scientist to support laboratory research, testing, and data analysis for titanium dioxide pigments used in paint, slurry, and polymer-based applications.

This hands-on role is well suited for a researcher who enjoys careful experimentation, formulation work, coatings performance testing, and learning how pigment properties influence application performance. The Associate Scientist will work closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to prepare samples, conduct experiments, analyze results, document findings, and support product development efforts that strengthen Chemours’ science and technology leadership.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare titanium dioxide slurries, paint formulations, polymer samples, and related pigment-containing materials using established laboratory procedures.

• Conduct lab-scale experiments to evaluate pigment dispersion, formulation behavior, coating appearance, and application performance.

• Operate laboratory equipment such as high-speed dispersers and other preparation, application, and testing tools; clean and prepare equipment for future use.

• Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret experimental data to support conclusions and recommend next steps.

• Support development and refinement of testing methods for paint, slurry, polymer, and pigment performance evaluations.

• Maintain accurate records of experimental procedures, observations, results, and conclusions.

• Collaborate with R&D scientists, technicians, engineers, and technical service colleagues to advance product development and application testing objectives.

• Participate in safe laboratory operations, including following procedures, identifying potential hazards, and contributing to continuous improvement in lab safety and organization.

• Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related technical field.

• Interest in hands-on laboratory work involving materials preparation, testing, and characterization.

• Ability to carefully follow procedures, conduct experiments, document observations, and maintain organized records.

• Basic data analysis skills, including the ability to work with spreadsheets, identify trends, draw conclusions, and communicate results.

• Commitment to safe, responsible, and organized laboratory work.

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

• Collaborative working style and willingness to learn from scientists, engineers, technicians, and cross-functional partners.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities as project needs change.

• Preferred Qualifications

• Coursework, internship, research, co-op, or laboratory experience related to coatings, pigments, polymers, paints, color science, materials testing, or formulation science.

• Experience preparing dispersions, slurries, paints, films, coatings, or polymer samples.

• Familiarity with laboratory equipment used for mixing, dispersion, coating application, physical testing, or analytical characterization.

• Experience interpreting technical data and summarizing findings in reports, presentations, lab notebooks, or electronic systems.

• Experience contributing to standard operating procedures, hazard reviews, or safe handling practices for laboratory materials.

• Interest in troubleshooting equipment, improving laboratory workflows, and learning new testing techniques.

Pay Range (in local currency):

• $73,947.00 - $115,542.00

Annual Bonus Target:

• 6%
