About the Role The Associate, Global Financial Control role supports processes related to compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and SOC programs on the Global Financial Control team. The team provides oversight and internal control testing for financial filings with the SEC and SOC reporting for Northern Trust business areas. This may be an entry-level position with opportunities for professional development.
What You'll Do
- Review various departments to understand and document key risks and controls within the function being reviewed.
- Develop and/or execute test steps, document results clearly, and evaluate the quality of the control environment.
- Stay current on SOX and SOC regulatory rules and changes within the industry.
- Communicate with partners at all levels, developing and presenting recommendations on operations and controls for the business unit.
- Identify and resolve problems within established guidelines; use initiative for routine issues and escalate complex ones to supervisors.
- Work effectively as a team member but also independently to meet deadlines.
- Generate and/or create formal reports and contribute to internal controls documentation and testing.
- Build knowledge across core aspects of the role and progress toward proficiency.
What We're Looking For
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly flexible and adaptable to change.
- Knowledge of auditing in the financial services industry, basic accounting principles, and related work experience.
- Analytical and organizational skills to conduct internal controls documentation and testing.
- Bachelor's degree required; Accounting or Finance preferred; experience in financial services preferred.
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance a plus; CPA or CIA a plus.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance a plus.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) a plus.
