Job title: Associate Electrical Distribution Engineer
About the Role As an Associate Electrical Distribution Engineer at Black & Veatch, you will develop electrical distribution deliverables (up to 34.5 kV) from design through execution, prepare equipment specifications and BOMs, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. You may travel to client or project sites for design reviews, construction coordination and field verification, and you will help manage budgets and schedules within our power and utilities market teams responsible for substations, renewables integration, data centers, and other distributed infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Prepare engineering deliverables for multiple projects (up to 34.5 kV) from design through construction
- Conduct research to develop equipment and material recommendations
- Manage data and perform complex engineering calculations
- Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and quality requirements across multiple disciplines
- Lead larger production teams, coordinate discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project
- Perform QA/QC tasks and ensure compliance with Black & Veatch quality program; provide guidance to other team members
- Interface directly with clients, vendors and subcontractors; identify client interests and develop solutions
- Support business development or pursuit activities; manage project changes with the client under the Project Manager's supervision
- Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for distribution line projects; provide technical leadership
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program; minimum 1 year related work experience
- Experience in design services for overhead and underground distribution line projects for investor-owned utilities in the United States
- Experience in design of overhead and underground distribution projects (4 kV–34.5 kV)
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage with clients to grow relationships
- Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards including NESC and NEC
- Working knowledge of interdisciplinary project coordination: procurement, subcontract administration, permitting, real estate and land acquisition, and construction support
- Working knowledge of the proposal process and developing engineering estimates
- Willingness to travel to client and project sites as needed
Nice to Have
- Experience in distribution line design for investor-owned utilities in the United States
- Experience with distribution projects in the 4 kV–34.5 kV range
- Strong client-facing communication skills and relationship-building abilities
- Advanced knowledge of NESC/NEC and related standards
- Experience coordinating procurement, permitting, real estate, and construction support
- Experience with proposals and engineering cost estimates
