- Assess manuscripts for quality, relevance and alignment with our publishing vision.
- Manage submission windows, assessments and recommendations for acquisition decisions.
- Ensure projects are properly managed for production.
- Maintain editorial calendars and production schedules, flagging delays promptly.
- Apply house style and quality standards consistently.
- Build strong, constructive relationships with authors and freelance editors.
- Coordinate with operations, design, and communications teams to keep projects on track.
- Strong editorial judgement with excellent reading, writing and proofreading skills.
- Organisational ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Clear, professional communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proactive, dependable and solutions-oriented mindset.
- Competence with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and digital publishing tools.
- Knowledge of African literary cultures and sensitivity to diverse readerships.
- A degree in English, Literature, Communications, Humanities, or related fields.
- 4–5 years of relevant editorial experience with manuscripts or long-form content.
- Demonstrable experience in proofreading, copyediting, manuscript assessment, or project coordination.
- Familiarity with book production workflows and publishing schedules is an advantage.
- A strong interest in African literature and developing books for local and international audiences.
