Position Summary

The School of Theology at Saint John’s University invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit eligible position of Associate Director of Ministerial Formation.
-
The Associate Director of Ministerial Formation provides leadership and administrative support for the ministerial formation, field education, and Youth in Theology and Ministry (YTM) programs of the School of Theology and Seminary (SOT/Sem). Working closely with the Director of Ministerial Formation and other formation leaders, the position oversees student engagement in formation and field education experiences, develops and maintains external partnerships, and supports the preparation of students for ministry and leadership.

Responsibilities

Field Education (40%)
-
Identify and cultivate field education placement sites and ministerial residencies for students and coordinate associated event planning logistics with university partners
-
Assist students in selecting placements and a supervisor for field education, and Clinical Pastoral Education
-
Prepare students to participate in theological reflection in their areas of ministry practice during placement (e.g., youth and campus ministry, religious education, pastoral care, social concerns, and preaching)

Make visits to students' field education sites, observe their ministry, and, with the site supervisor, offer feedback and assessment

Ministerial Formation (30%)
-
Advise incoming students regarding formation and field education requirements and monitor students' progress throughout the degree program
-
Prepare ministry students for spiritual companioning/direction

In collaboration with the Director, develop and coordinate formational events, workshops, and other curricular learning experiences

Support the ministerial assessment process (e.g., portfolios), coordinating logistics and compiling materials for the Director's review

Attend to the particular formational needs of distance learning students and help implement hybrid formational opportunities

Youth in Theology and Ministry (YTM) (30%)
-
Recruit, train and supervise staff in youth ministry best practices, safe environment protocols, and curriculum of YTM

Direct and lead planning and execution of the YTM Summer Institute

Recruit youth with an annual goal of 25 participants

Manage YTM program budget

Collaborate with University for event planning logistics

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Master of Divinity or equivalent education and experience in pastoral or practical theology
- One or more years of experience in Roman Catholic Ministry
- Experience in Ministerial Formation and Field Education supervision preferred.
- Experience in chaplaincy preferred
- Demonstrated organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal relation skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
Physical requirements:
- Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including sitting, typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role.
Travel requirements:
- Occasional local and regional support of field education, partnerships with dioceses, and national conference attendance.
