About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, Ambulatory, the ACMO for Cancer Services oversees medical operations within the Ambulatory Business Unit to ensure high-quality clinical care. The role provides physician leadership for Cancer Services faculty practices and serves as a liaison between clinicians and health-system executives. It focuses on improving ambulatory access, modernizing operations, and advancing quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee medical operations for Cancer Services within the Ambulatory Business Unit to ensure high-quality clinical care.
  • Provide physician leadership for Cancer Services faculty practices and serve as a liaison between clinicians and health-system executives.
  • Implement safe, cost-effective, efficient medical interventions and ensure seamless medical care across inpatient units and ambulatory sites.
  • Focus on improving ambulatory access and modernizing operations.
  • Develop and/or facilitate quality measurements for clinical programs; monitor and improve quality and safety metrics.
  • Establish and monitor compliance with regulations required by external regulatory agencies, state, and other accreditation bodies.
  • Contribute to physician workforce planning, recruitment, evaluation, and training.
  • Assist faculty practices in resolving policy questions related to medical staff and patient care.
  • Coordinate activities of the faculty practice medical staff and assure compliance with medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations.
  • Understand this role as 70% Health Administration and 30% Clinical work, within UCSF Health’s Faculty Practice Organization (FPO).

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, clinical degree, or equivalent experience/training.
  • 5+ years of progressive management or leadership experience in an academic Medical Center or large healthcare system.
  • MD in medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).
  • Ability to handle executive management responsibilities in an ambulatory practice.
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare delivery models, business and strategic planning, financial management, program development, implementation, and organizational development.
  • Highly advanced ability to work collaboratively with Medical Center management, campus leadership, external agencies, and other academic medical centers and healthcare institutions.
  • Expert ability to establish and utilize clinic metrics to drive excellence, support operations, and facilitate integration.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in sensitive situations that may involve public scrutiny.
  • Highly advanced interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Highly advanced ability to build and maintain a climate of trust that inspires commitment to organizational goals.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in business, Health Administration, or clinical degree.
  • Board-certified medical, surgical, or radiation oncologist with experience building best-in-class academic oncology enterprise operations.
  • Expert knowledge of capital and operating budget development and management, financial analysis, and reporting techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements as well as legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $281,700 - $593,100 per year (USD).
