Job title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences
About the Role Carson-Newman University seeks a dedicated educator for the role of Assistant/Associate Professor of Family and Consumer Sciences to teach Interior Design at the undergraduate level. This full-time, tenure-track, 9-month appointment begins Fall 2027, with leadership expectations in curriculum development as the Interior Design program coordinator, and active engagement in assessment and accreditation efforts.
What You'll Do
- Teach 24 semester hours per year in interior design topics including interior design fundamentals, building systems, architectural drafting, space planning, materials and finishes, computer-aided design, history of architecture and interiors, kitchen and bath design, residential and commercial design, and professional practice.
- Lead curriculum development as Program Coordinator for Interior Design; contribute to assessment and accreditation; potentially pursue CIDA accreditation for the Interior Design program.
- Advise students in the discipline and direct internships.
- Commit to teamwork, scholarship, and professional involvement, including membership in the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and attainment of the Certified in Family and Consumer Sciences (CFCS) credential.
- Contribute to the university and department missions, be a collegial member of the institution at all levels, participate in professional and scholarly activities, and provide service to the department and community at large.
What We're Looking For
- Earned master’s degree in interior design, housing and design, or a related field; preference given to those with an earned doctoral degree.
- TN Interior Design licensure eligible.
- Experience: preferably at least one year of teaching experience in higher education.
- Required Skills: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; advanced organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Demonstrated alignment with Carson-Newman University’s Christian mission and values; regular participation in a local church as expected of University employees.
Nice to Have
- Doctoral degree in a related field (PhD, EdD) preferred.
- Experience or interest in accreditation processes, particularly CIDA, for Interior Design programs.
