Job title: Assistant Unit Director - Pediatric Cardiac ICU (Days)

About the Role The Assistant Unit Director provides leadership to the Pediatric Cardiac ICU nursing team at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. This role supervises staff involved in clinical patient care, helps ensure high-quality patient care delivery, and may assume full unit responsibility in delegated areas or in the absence of the manager. The PCICU is an 18-bed unit serving critically ill neonates through adults with congenital heart defects.

What You'll Do

  • Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care.
  • Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
  • Assists with administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
  • May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.
  • Works within UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), an 18-bed unit caring for neonates through adults with congenital heart defects, coordinating with the Transport Team and Access Center as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Three years of Pediatric or Adult Cardiac ICU RN clinical experience.
  • Three years of progressive leadership experience in patient care services.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.
  • Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.
  • Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
  • This position requires cross-training to the Pediatric Cardiac Transitional Care Unit as needed.

Nice to Have

  • Two years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU RN leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing or relevant area.
  • CCRN.
  • Leadership Certification.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Plan details indicate a target payout of 3.5% with a maximum of 5% (as part of the compensation plan).
