About the Role The Assistant Swim Coach supports the head coach in managing Millsaps College's men's and women's swimming and diving program. This on-site role involves recruiting, training, coaching, fundraising support, and collaboration with the Department of Athletics. The position is based in Jackson, MS and requires regular evening/weekend work and travel. What You'll Do
- Support the Head Swim Coach by upholding NCAA Division III philosophy and complying with NCAA Division III, SAA, and Millsaps guidelines.
- Recruit and evaluate high school and college athletes within admissions and NCAA Division III guidelines.
- Provide in-pool coaching and athlete skill development.
- Accept game-day administration obligations each semester, if necessary.
- Assist in planning and conducting practice sessions.
- Monitor academic progress of student-athletes through grade reports, study-skill development, and counseling.
- Coordinate team travel and logistics (vehicles, lodging, meals).
- Assist in scouting opponents.
- Assist with fundraising programs to augment the program's operations budget.
- Maintain communication with parents and alumnae.
- Assist with equipment maintenance.
- Participate in other areas of interest for the College and Athletics.
- Accept additional duties assigned by the Athletics Director and Head Coach. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Management, Kinesiology, or a relevant field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- 1-3 years of college coaching experience or playing experience.
- Desire to foster a strong academic and athletic program through creative and educational means.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in team environments and individually; promote a positive team environment and maintain good morale.
- Highly organized, creative problem-solver who takes initiative.
- Physical & Availability Requirements: Able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance; must have a valid state-issued driver's license; must be able to traverse college campus and climb stairs; occasional stooping, bending, lifting and reaching; manual dexterity for demonstrating proper form and technique.
