Assistant Professor - Sociology Hostos Community College The Behavioral and Social Sciences Department is committed to the intellectual development and civic empowerment of all students through offerings that provide an understanding of human behavior and the social and historical evolution of societies, nation states, and modern systems of political and legal governance. Through specific offerings in the disciplines of sociology, psychology, anthropology, social work, political science, public policy and administration, paralegal studies, criminal justice, history, and economics, students are encouraged to explore their society, its diversity, and acquire knowledge about the actions of individuals, institutions and key governance structures. The department offers liberal arts options and degree programs in public policy and administration, criminal justice, and paralegal studies. The department is committed to the enhancement of opportunities for historically underserved communities, including ethnic, racial and linguistic minorities.
The Behavioral & Social Sciences Department invites applications for a tenured track Assistant Professor to teach undergraduate level Sociology courses. Areas of specializations are open.
The position requires teaching, research, and service to the college. In addition to teaching, the selected candidate will share responsibility for college-wide and departmental assignments; develop new curriculum and interdisciplinary programmatic initiatives; serve on unit, department, and college-wide committees; provide academic support and guidance to students; and perform additional administrative duties as needed. Essential duties require in-person duties on campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. degree in Sociology in area(s) of experience. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Record of scholarly activity
- Evidence of at least two years of effective teaching experience
- Experience teaching first year college students
- Experience teaching with online modalities
- Ability to teach in a diverse multicultural urban college
- Availability to teach evening and weekend hours
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish and/or English and French
COMPENSATION
$79,630 - $85,556; salary commensurate with education and experience.
