About the Role The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Structural Engineering to begin Fall 2027. The position emphasizes teaching excellence, externally funded research, and service as part of Cal Poly’s Learn by Doing philosophy and teacher-scholar model.
What You'll Do
- Teach undergraduate lecture courses and laboratories in civil engineering and structural engineering and design
- Teach graduate courses and laboratories in structural engineering, design, and in area of expertise
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate-level research
- Develop and maintain externally-funded research
- Engage in service activities including student advising, curriculum development, and shared governance
What We're Looking For
- Doctorate in civil/structural/architectural engineering (or equivalent) required
- Demonstrated teaching excellence
- Ability to develop externally funded applied research
- Ability to supervise students
- Strong English communication

Compensation & Benefits
- Anticipated salary range: $106,000 – $117,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience
