About the Role The Assistant Professor of Specialty Dental Medicine at the College of Dental Medicine supports patient care delivery, student clinical education, and clinic operations, providing technical expertise in specialty areas such as prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, and endodontics. The role also assists faculty in clinical instruction, ensures regulatory compliance, and serves as a key resource for students and clinical staff.

What You'll Do

  • Provide expert support in designated specialty areas and assist with clinical instruction.
  • Prepare and maintain instruments, materials, and supplies; ensure treatment rooms and equipment are properly set up and maintained for optimal functionality.
  • Assist students during clinical sessions, reinforce proper techniques, support faculty in evaluating student performance, and promote professionalism and patient-centered care.
  • Coordinate specialty clinics, manage appointment flow, faculty coverage, and case follow-up; assist with documentation, case presentations, and interdepartmental referrals.
  • Ensure adherence to clinic policies, infection control guidelines, HIPAA, and OSHA; participate in audits, chart reviews, and safety checks; address clinical issues and patient concerns promptly.
  • Participate in faculty and staff calibration sessions and provide onboarding and continuing education support for new staff and students on specialty procedures and workflows.
  • Monitor inventory and equipment; oversee supplies and ensure functionality of instruments and imaging and related equipment.

What We're Looking For

  • Required: Dental degree (DDS or DMD) with specialization or advanced training; minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in a dental practice or academic setting; strong knowledge of specialty procedures, instrumentation, and materials; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in an academic dental clinic; familiarity with electronic health record systems; BLS certification and knowledge of emergency response; experience mentoring or training dental students or staff.
