Assistant Professor of Psychology

Coe College, a small liberal arts college of 1,200 students in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, seeks qualified applicants for a full-time tenure-track appointment in Psychology. The successful candidate will have a specialization in behavioral or cognitive neuroscience. The successful candidate will teach a 3:3 load, including regularly teaching Biopsychology and upper-level neuroscience courses. Additional courses may include Introductory Psychology, Statistics, a first- year seminar and/or upper-level seminar course in an area of interest to the candidate.

The Department is committed to a student-centered perspective and an inclusive approach to teaching and research. A doctoral degree is required by the start date. Preference will be given to candidates who can provide evidence of successful teaching, an active program of research adaptable to student-faculty collaboration, and who have an academic background in psychology. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Coe’s Psychology Department includes seven full-time faculty and is an integral part of the college’s interdisciplinary Neuroscience major. The Department has a strong commitment to provide intensive, hands-on research experiences and internship placements for its students.

Please describe your teaching philosophy and background, provide evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., course evaluations), and explain how you would help students from varied backgrounds and levels of preparation succeed through your teaching, mentoring, or other contributions to the department and college.

Research statement: The Coe College Psychology Department has a strong tradition in and commitment to collaborative student/faculty research. Please provide a description of the research program that you would bring to or develop at the college. Particular focus should be on describing the role of students as collaborators in your research.
