About the Role Eckerd College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, tenure-track, to start August 2027. The successful candidate will teach seven courses per year (3-1-3), with primary responsibility for the two-semester general chemistry sequence (lecture and lab) and a 200-level lab-based environmental chemistry course, while engaging undergraduates in research and publication. What You'll Do
- Teach seven courses per year (3-1-3), including the general chemistry sequence and a 200-level environmental chemistry lab course
- Actively mentor and involve undergraduate students in research projects and scholarly publications
- Contribute to Eckerd's general education program and participate in college service and interdisciplinary initiatives
- Collaborate with the James Center for Molecular and Life Sciences and department colleagues to advance teaching and research missions What We're Looking For
- Ph.D. in Chemistry (or closely related field) required
- Postdoctoral experience and a strong record of teaching excellence preferred
- Commitment to undergraduate mentoring, inclusive education, and involving students in research
- Ability to teach both lecture and laboratory courses and to develop engaging chemistry curricula
- Interest in building a program of research with undergraduate involvement Nice to Have
- Experience teaching general chemistry sequences and environmental chemistry at the undergraduate level
- Familiarity with available instrumentation (AA, UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, HPLC, GC-MS, etc.) and modern laboratory teaching
- Experience with undergraduate research programs and grant-writing Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary: $68,000 per year
