Job title: Assistant Professor of Biology (Tenure-Track)
About the Role The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin August 2026. We seek a broadly trained biologist who will contribute to our physiological and organismal biology curriculum and engage in undergraduate teaching and mentoring within a liberal arts setting.
What You'll Do
- Teach one semester of introductory biology aligned with the applicant’s area of expertise.
- Teach the second semester of a revised two-semester sequence of anatomy & physiology.
- Teach upper-level courses that align with the individual's interests and departmental needs.
- Maintain a standard teaching load of 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab) plus a January Term course every other year.
- Engage undergraduates in research through coursework and/or summer or academic-year projects.
- Contribute to curriculum development, department service, and fostering a diverse student body.
- Participate in campus life and mentorship as part of a welcoming, inclusive community.
What We're Looking For
- PhD in Biology or closely related field by August 2026.
- Broadly trained biologist with the ability to contribute to physiological and organismal biology curriculum.
- Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment.
- Strong interest and ability to mentor a diverse student body and involve undergraduates in research.
- Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring, and capacity to engage in scholarly activity.
Nice to Have
- Experience teaching physiology or anatomy & physiology sequences.
- Prior undergraduate research mentorship; experience in a liberal arts setting.
- Familiarity with activities typical of a Hispanic-serving Institution (HSI) and inclusive practices.
Compensation & Benefits Austin College provides startup funds; additional internal funding is available for mentoring summer research students.
