Assistant Professor-Musical Theater Performance (Tenure Track) Syracuse University, Acting/BFA
The Department of Drama, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, a highly ranked BFA program uniquely integrated with Syracuse Stage, a major regional theater, seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor in the Musical Theater program with expertise in voice pedagogy and musical theater performance. The department is particularly interested in candidates who have communication abilities and cross-cultural competencies to maximize their effectiveness with many different groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
We are looking for collaborative colleagues who will participate in the life of a vibrant department. Selected candidates will teach courses at all levels and may serve in creative team roles for the department’s production season.

Relevant advanced degree required.

Demonstrated professional experience, teaching, and creative activity.

Demonstrated voice teaching excellence.

Extensive knowledge of musical theater repertoire.

Proficiency in contemporary commercial music vocal techniques.

Commitment to the development of a curriculum that responds effectively to the artistic needs of an ever-changing profession.

Ability and willingness to collaborate with faculty in all programs (Acting, Musical Theater, Theater Design and Technology, Stage Management, and the B.S. in Drama) in the ongoing life of a top-quality pre-professional training program.
Responsibilities

Teach a variety of courses at all levels (which could include Vocal Techniques, Acting the Song, Music Fundamentals, Anatomy and Vocal Health, Musical Theater Audition, History of Musical Theater, Topics in Musical Theater Performance, etc.), as assigned by the Chair and based upon expertise.

Serve as both an academic and creative advisor to students, guiding them in the creation and realization of professional quality work in accordance with current emerging best professional practices.

Engage in continued professional creative work and/or research.

Participate in service and committee work for Department, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and Syracuse University.
