Assistant Professor - Mechanical or Electrical Engineering

About the Role The Department of Engineering at Abilene Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. We seek a talented engineer who is a professing Christian and committed to supporting ACU's Christian mission. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence and mentorship, and will establish a sustainable undergraduate research program that involves undergraduate students. The ideal applicant will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentorship, and scholarship, with potential for growth.

ACU invites applications from qualified individuals who hold a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Education, or closely related fields (e.g., Aerospace, Chemical, Materials Science, Nuclear, or Petroleum Engineering). The engineering program serves roughly 175 students and is ABET/EAC accredited under General Engineering; it will seek ABET accreditation in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering in Fall 2027. • Teaching: Deliver effective instruction across foundational and discipline-specific engineering courses; implement evidence-based instructional methods; lead development and execution of experiential learning activities and project-based coursework; collaborate on curriculum and laboratory facilities to support ABET accreditation.
• Scholarship: Establish a sustainable program of scholarly activity aligned with the university mission; actively involve undergraduate students in research; pursue opportunities for external funding and peer-reviewed dissemination.
• Service: Mentor engineering students in academic progress and career planning; supervise senior capstone design projects; serve as a faculty advisor for student professional organizations and departmental committees. What We're Looking For
• Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering education, or closely related field (e.g., aerospace, chemical, materials science, nuclear, or petroleum); demonstrated record of effective communication, teamwork, and planning; evidence of scholarly work or potential for it.
• Preferred Qualifications: University-level classroom teaching experience; coursework or formal training in engineering education pedagogy; professional engineering licensure or ability to obtain one; demonstrated ability to secure research funding.
