Assistant Professor, Health & Kinesiology
Job Summary
This tenure-track position involves a range of duties and responsibilities essential to the role. Key responsibilities include:
- Teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in Kinesiology, with a focus in exercise science, strength and conditioning, and biomechanics.
- Assist with developing the program to meet the needs of the job market as well as pre-professional pathways.
- Advising and mentoring students.
- Supervising student field experiences.
- Pursuing a research agenda that results in publications and extramural support.
- Collaborating with field-based colleagues.
- Providing service to the department, college, university, and profession.
- Incorporating the use of career related AI within courses.

Essential Job Functions
Teaching:
- Teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in Kinesiology, with a focus in exercise science, strength and conditioning, and biomechanics.
- Utilize both face-to-face and online course delivery methods, integrating innovative and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Supervise student field experiences, internships, and applied learning opportunities.
- Maintain regular office hours and provide academic support to students.
Research/grant writing:
- Develop and sustain a research agenda in kinesiology.
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at professional conferences.
- Mentor students in research projects, theses, and presentations.
- Pursue external funding opportunities to support research and departmental initiatives.
Service:
- Providing service to the department, college, university, and profession.
- Contribute to professional organizations and accreditation processes (e.g. program review, curriculum development).
- Support community outreach and partnerships that advance health, fitness, and kinesiology.
- Collaborate with faculty across disciplines and with field-based colleagues to enhance program offerings.
Advising:
- Serve as an academic advisor/mentor to students.
- Guide students in professional development, graduate school preparation, and career pathways.
- Support students seeking professional certificates.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field. ABD will be considered.
- The ability to teach both face-to-face and online course delivery methods. Preference will be given to those applicants who have prior teaching experience at the college level using both face-to-face traditional and online course delivery.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues and students in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrate potential for scholarly activity.
Desired Qualifications:
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship;
- Experience and proficiency teaching at the university level;
- Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate coursework in kinesiology; including but not limited to, exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise prescription, and strength and conditioning, among others;
- ACSM or CSCS certification;
- Blackboard LMS experience;
- Accreditation experience.

Requirements

Able to lift 40 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing, and walking between buildings. Standing or sitting for extended periods while teaching or in office hours.
