Assistant Professor - Department of Health, Physical Education and Dance

The Department of Health, Physical Education and Dance at Queensborough Community College of the City University of New York provides rigorous academic programs in Nutrition, Public Health, Movement Science, Dance, Massage Therapy and Emergency Medical Technician. Our programs prepare students for further studies at the baccalaureate level and for careers in their respective field. The Department is seeking an accomplished assistant professor in Health Education to provide excellence in teaching, service and scholarship to the Department and College to begin in the Spring 2027 semester. The candidate will teach health education and interdisciplinary courses.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teach courses and perform related faculty functions within areas of expertise.
• Participate in departmental and college assessment activities.
• Engage in ongoing research and pursue grant opportunities within discipline and in pedagogy.
• Present research at professional conferences and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
• Mentor departmental student majors and support their academic and professional development.
• Support department-sponsored health lecture series and related programming.
• Contribute to initiatives that promote student recruitment, engagement, and retention.
• Actively participate in departmental and college committees, events, programs, and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A doctoral-level degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Education, or a related field.
• Credentialed as an RDN, CHES/MCHES, and/or holder of another relevant healthcare license or professional certification.
• Experience teaching undergraduate Health Education courses, preferably at the community college level.
• Demonstrated ability to use technology and a diverse range of effective instructional strategies in both online and in-person teaching and learning environments.
• Experience working with diverse communities and/or diverse student populations.
• Experience engaging in scholarly activities, such as conference presentations, grants, and peer-reviewed publications.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contribute to departmental and college service, and communicate effectively through strong written and oral communication skills.

COMPENSATION

Salary $89,777 - $98,231.

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
