Job title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Christian Ministry and Church Leadership
About the Role Oakwood University invites applications for a full-time Assistant or Associate Professor of Christian Ministry and Church Leadership. The position exists to prepare leaders for service to the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the world through excellent teaching, spiritual formation, and faith-integrated education grounded in Adventist beliefs and values. The appointee will contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate programs, advise students, engage in scholarship, and participate in departmental and university service.
What You'll Do
- Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses
- Prepare and deliver high-quality instruction using effective pedagogical methods
- Integrate faith and learning in teaching and mentoring
- Advise and mentor students pursuing careers in ministry, chaplaincy, and church leadership
- Support students’ spiritual, academic, and professional development
- Supervise ministry practicums, internships, and field education where applicable
- Maintain an active agenda of research, scholarship, or professional ministry engagement
- Publish scholarly works and/or present at professional conferences
- Remain current in theological scholarship and trends in ministry and church leadership
- Participate in departmental, school, and university committees
- Support campus worship, spiritual life activities, and community outreach
- Engage in service to the church, denomination, and broader community
- Contribute to accreditation, assessment, and program improvement efforts
- Maintain regular office hours as stipulated in the Faculty Handbook
- Other duties as assigned
What We're Looking For
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Th.D., D.Min., or equivalent) in Christian Ministry, with emphasis in Church Leadership
- Five years of experience as a local pastor or other denominational-approved ministry
- Demonstrated effectiveness or potential for excellence in college-level teaching
- Clear commitment to Christian faith and the mission of Oakwood University
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and mentoring skills
- Hold or be eligible to hold a Ministerial license or credentials as an ordained commissioned minister
- Ordination and/or significant pastoral or ministry experience
- Teaching experience at the collegiate or graduate level
- Evidence of scholarly productivity or professional ministry leadership
- Experience working within a diverse, multicultural, or faith-based academic environment
- Familiarity with Seventh-day Adventist theology, history, or ecclesiology
- Eligibility to work in the United States
