About this role
Job title: Assistant Optical/Fiber Engineer
About the Role As an assistant Optical/Fiber Engineer, you will support the design and optimization of optical systems, fiber optic components, and photonic devices using Zemax/OpticStudio and CAD tools. You will assist senior engineers with modelling, ray tracing, tolerancing, and material research to ensure optical performance aligns with mechanical and manufacturing constraints.
What You'll Do
- Assist senior engineers in modelling optical systems (e.g., lenses, coating, fiber coupling) using Zemax or OpticStudio.
- Perform basic ray tracing, aberration analysis, and tolerance studies.
- Learn to interpret GD&T symbols (e.g., position, concentricity, parallelism) for optical alignment and mounting interfaces.
- Support senior engineers in validating mechanical tolerances against optical performance requirements.
- Research material properties (e.g., optical glass, polymers, metals) for lens mounts and fiber enclosures.
- Assist in selecting coatings (e.g., anti-reflection, protective) and surface treatments for optical surfaces.
- Scope: Assist in designing and optimizing optical systems, fiber optic components, and photonic devices using specialized CAD tools (e.g., Zemax, OpticStudio, or SolidWorks for mechanical integration).
What We're Looking For
- Basic knowledge of fiber optics, wave optics, and photonics principles.
- Basic proficiency in Zemax/OpticStudio for optical modelling or SolidWorks for mechanical integration.
- Familiarity with parametric design and feature-based modelling.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings with tolerances.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Awareness of manufacturing processes for optical components (e.g., glass molding, CNC polishing) is a plus.
- English CET 6 or above, or equivalent. Proficient in reading and writing. Adequate in verbal communication.
Nice to Have
- English language proficiency at CET-6 level or equivalent with strong reading/writing and verbal communication.
