About the Role
CFAO South Africa is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to join the Machinery team based in Durban. The role is to co-ordinate the sourcing, installation, technical support and ongoing maintenance of agreed products in line with project objectives, compliance requirements and distributor rights.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate sourcing, installation, technical support and ongoing maintenance of agreed products in line with project objectives, compliance requirements and distributor rights.
- Design and quality control the manufacture of tooling and mechanical test fixtures; improve production processes.
- Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety and reliability.
- Develop project specifications and outline designs; manage projects using engineering principles, agreeing budgets, timescales and specifications with clients and managers.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to explain products or services to customers and prospective customers; secure and renew orders and arrange delivery.
- Design, develop, and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices; create automated systems and the software to control them.
- Conduct research, document findings, and present reports; develop design documents for mechanical parts and final products.
- Identify areas of weakness in the production line or finished products and make recommendations for improvement; work with sub-contractors, suppliers, and customers to solve problems.
- Provide technical and aftersales support on robots.
- Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
What We're Looking For
- BTec/BSc degree – Mechatronics Engineering.
- 1-2 years’ experience in manufacturing and design field.
- Strong command of technologies, tools & best practices in Mechanical Design, Robotics and PLC programming; proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks Professional or CATIA V5).
- Good oral communication skills and confidence in dealing with clients, contractors, designers and directors; ability to work well within a team and under pressure.
- Ability to work within cost constraints and to deadlines; experience in project management and budgeting.
- IT skills, particularly computer-aided design, PLC programming and robotics.
- Experience in designing tooling, fixtures and quality control, and in developing cost-effective equipment modifications to improve safety and reliability.
- Problem solving with sub-contractors, suppliers and customers; able to deliver technical and aftersales support on robots.
