The Federal College of Education, FCE Yola was established in 1974 as a middle level Teacher Training Institute. Hitherto, it was known as Federal advanced Teacher's College, FATC Yola. However, actual academic activities commenced during the 1975/76 session, with a total of one hundred and fifty students under the leadership of the Pioneer Principal.

Other requirements include evidence of NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, evidence of registration with TRCN, demonstration of good knowledge of computer, successful external assessment, evidence of community service, and publications: journal articles and chapters in books or major exhibitions or inventions or conference/seminar paper presentation are Nil.
