Job Summary

  • The Assistant Housekeeping Manager supports the Housekeeping Manager in the effective management of all housekeeping operations.
  • The position is responsible for maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness, hygiene, guest service, productivity, and departmental performance while providing leadership, training, and operational support to the housekeeping team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Housekeeping Manager in planning, organizing, and managing daily housekeeping operations.

  • Supervise housekeeping supervisors and ensure effective management of housekeeping attendants and support staff.

  • Review daily occupancy, arrivals, departures, VIP movements, special requests, and operational priorities.

  • Coordinate room assignments and staffing levels according to business requirements.

  • Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, linen rooms, and other assigned areas.

  • Ensure that all rooms and public areas consistently meet the property's cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and maintenance standards.

  • Monitor room status and ensure timely communication with Front Office.

  • Assist in developing and implementing departmental SOPs, cleaning schedules, checklists, and quality standards.

  • Coach, train, and develop housekeeping supervisors and attendants to improve service quality and productivity.

  • Monitor employee attendance, performance, grooming, discipline, and adherence to company policies.

  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluations, disciplinary processes, and staff development where required.

  • Monitor departmental inventories, including linen, amenities, cleaning chemicals, guest supplies, uniforms, and equipment.

  • Assist with budgeting, cost control, purchasing, and effective utilization of housekeeping resources.

  • Monitor chemical usage and ensure appropriate storage, handling, and disposal procedures.

  • Coordinate with Engineering/Maintenance regarding room defects, preventive maintenance, repairs, and out-of-order rooms.

  • Work closely with Front Office to prioritize room cleaning and ensure efficient room turnaround.

  • Coordinate with Laundry, Security, Food & Beverage, and other departments on operational matters.

  • Handle escalated guest complaints and housekeeping-related service recovery issues professionally.

  • Ensure proper implementation of lost and found, key control, guest privacy, and security procedures.

  • Monitor health, safety, sanitation, fire prevention, and environmental standards within the department.

  • Support inspections, audits, quality assurance programs, and management reviews.

  • Analyze housekeeping performance indicators such as productivity, room turnaround, guest feedback, supply consumption, and departmental costs.

  • Prepare and review housekeeping reports and provide relevant operational information to the Housekeeping Manager.

  • Act on behalf of the Housekeeping Manager when required.

  • Assist in planning deep-cleaning, preventive maintenance, seasonal projects, and special events.

  • Ensure departmental policies and company standards are consistently implemented.

  • Perform other duties assigned by the Housekeeping Manager or General Manager.

  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, or a related field.

  • 3–5 years of housekeeping experience, preferably within a hotel or upscale hospitality environment.

  • Previous supervisory or management experience in housekeeping is required.

  • Strong knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, room standards, hygiene, laundry, linen control, and cleaning procedures.

  • Good knowledge of health and safety requirements.

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and hotel/property management systems is an advantage.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Salary

N250,000 - N300,000 monthly.
