About this role
About the Role The Assistant General Counsel will be a senior in-house lawyer within S&P DJI's global Legal Team, reporting to the Associate General Counsel and Managing Director EMEA. The role covers a broad range of regulatory, commercial, and governance matters for a regulated financial data and index business, including licensing, data rights, contracts, corporate governance, and regulatory interplay with authorities across Europe and the UK.
What You'll Do
- Partner with business stakeholders to align product and commercial strategy and draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including licensing indices for financial products, index data subscriptions, inbound data and technology, custom calculation services, web-based services, and consulting relationships.
- Advise on creation and publication of thought leadership and marketing materials, incorporating applicable financial regulations.
- Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance on UK and European regimes (BMR, UCITS, MiFID II, DORA, GDPR) and monitor developments across these frameworks.
- Support interaction with policy and supervisory teams, respond to regulatory consultations, prepare submissions, and liaise with the FCA, ESMA, and other regulators.
- Support sales and other business teams with legal risk assessment and practical solutions on complex index licensing, insurance and bank hedging OTC products.
- Advise on corporate governance matters, including board/committee support, governance frameworks, corporate secretarial duties, and entity management.
- Collaborate with the S&P DJI Legal Team to advise on cross-functional matters and provide strategic input.
- Advise Compliance on policies and procedures (e.g., confidentiality, insider trading).
- Support requests for proposals, customer due diligence, risk questionnaires, and audits.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the manager.
