Assistant General Counsel

About the Role Assistant General Counsel with AIG's Data, Digital & Cyber Legal team will support our global insurance business on cybersecurity, data protection, and artificial intelligence matters across the Asia-Pacific region. You will advise business, technology, and risk stakeholders, helping shape data governance, cyber resilience, and responsible AI deployment from Singapore.

What You'll Do

• Advise on cybersecurity legal risks, including incident response, data breaches, ransomware, and regulatory notification obligations across APAC jurisdictions.
• Support development and negotiation of technology and ICT contracts (cloud, SaaS, outsourcing, cybersecurity services).
• Provide input into cyber resilience frameworks and alignment with global regulatory standards (e.g., MAS TRM, APRA CPS 234, HKMA requirements).
• Partner with IT Security and Risk on third-party risk management and critical vendor assessments.
• Advise on data protection laws across APAC (Singapore PDPA, HK PDPO, Australia Privacy Act; cross-border transfers, DPIAs; data use, legal bases, consent).
• Advise on AI governance, regulatory issues, and responsible AI frameworks; conduct risk assessments for AI-enabled tools; monitor emerging AI guidance.
• Provide legal support for digital transformation initiatives, including cloud adoption and data-driven business models; draft and negotiate data processing, licensing, and technology service agreements.
• Collaborate with global teams; provide training and awareness; manage external counsel when needed.

What We're Looking For

• Qualified lawyer with at least 8 years’ experience in-house or private practice in technology, data privacy, and cybersecurity.
• Experience within financial services, information technology or insurance strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of APAC data protection regimes, cybersecurity regulatory frameworks and emerging AI governance/regulatory landscape.
• Understanding of financial services-specific information security requirements.
• Proven experience advising senior stakeholders across multiple APAC jurisdictions.
• Experience working in a large, fast-paced organization during significant change and transformation.
• Licensed or eligible to practice in Singapore.
• Working proficiency in Mandarin and English.
• Willingness to be onsite in Singapore and collaborate in person.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with MAS TRM, APRA CPS 234, HKMA requirements.
• Additional regional experience or certifications in data protection and cyber risk.
