About the Role The Assistant Director of Sports Performance Nutrition is a key member of UD's multidisciplinary sports performance health care team, reporting to the Director of Sports Performance Nutrition. The role supports day-to-day operations, oversees fueling and education for 21 Division I varsity sports, and contributes to an excellent student-athlete experience while fostering inclusiveness. It works across athletic trainers, strength and conditioning, athletic training, sport psychology, and other partners to implement policies and procedures.
What You'll Do
- Provide nutritional care and education to student-athletes, work with team physicians, campus healthcare professionals, coaches, and staff to maximize performance, health and well-being; assess and counsel on optimal nutritional practices for training, competition, recovery from practice, competitions, injury and illness, weight management, hydration and supplementation.
- Work in a creative and collaborative team environment with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, sports psychologist, sport coaches, team physicians, campus partners, and administrators to foster a multidisciplinary approach to student-athlete health and wellness.
- Assess and counsel student-athletes on optimal nutritional practices for training, competition, recovery from practice, competitions, injury and illness, weight management, hydration and supplementation and on medical-related nutrition concerns utilizing appropriate medical nutrition therapy techniques for concerns such as disordered eating, anemia, diabetes, bone mineral disturbances, amenorrhea, hypertension, gastrointestinal concerns, food allergies.
- Support day-to-day operations of the Sports Performance Nutrition Department, including shared oversight of fueling and education for 21 Division I varsity sports as assigned by the Director.
- Collaborate with current Sports Performance Nutrition staff, Strength and Conditioning staff, Athletic Training staff, Sport Psychology staff, and other members of the Sports Performance department to ensure policies and procedures are followed and implemented.

- Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, sport psychology staff, coaches, physicians, campus partners, and administrators.
- Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy techniques for concerns such as disordered eating, anemia, diabetes, bone mineral disturbances, amenorrhea, hypertension, GI concerns, and food allergies.
- Strong communication and counseling skills, with a commitment to inclusiveness and supporting the student-athlete experience.
- Interest in contributing to fueling education across multiple Division I sports.
