Assistant Director of Industry and Career Advising (STEM)

The Career Development Center at Elizabethtown College is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Industry and Career Advising (STEM).

This position serves as the Career Development Center's primary liaison and subject-matter resource for the School of Engineering and Computer Science and traditional science majors in the School of Sciences and Health, delivering an integrated approach to career advising, employer engagement, experiential learning, and career readiness. The Assistant Director of Industry and Career Advising for STEM career communities, provides discipline-specific expertise while ensuring equitable, high-quality career development support for students across the institution.

In this role, the Assistant Director partners closely with faculty, staff, employers, alumni, and campus stakeholders to align career development efforts with academic curricula and industry needs. The position blends individualized career advising, proactive employer and alumni engagement, and leadership in campus-wide career readiness initiatives, including the Career Action Plan, First Destination outcomes, and integration of NACE career competencies into the student experience. The Assistant Director contributes to division-wide strategy and continuous improvement efforts, supporting institutional goals related to student success, post-graduate outcomes, and workforce readiness.

Essential functions

Career Advising & Industry Expertise

  • Serve as the primary Career Development Center liaison and subject-matter resource for the School of Engineering and Computer Science and traditional science majors in the School of Sciences and Health, maintaining expertise in career pathways, recruiting practices and timelines, employment trends, emerging roles, professional associations, skills, credentials, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Provide comprehensive career advising and coaching to students related to career exploration and decision-making, career readiness, professional skill development, networking, job and internship searches, and post-graduate planning.
  • Serve as the instructor for the School of Engineering and Computer Science professional development course, delivering career readiness curriculum aligned with School and Career Development Center priorities.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to develop and deliver discipline- and industry-specific career resources, programming, classroom presentations, and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Connect students with employers, alumni, graduate/professional programs, and relevant career opportunities through targeted programming, communications, Handshake, and other Career Development Center resources.
  • Ensure consistent and equitable access to career development support across assigned areas and serve as a back-up advisor for other Schools, majors, and industries as needed.

Employer, Alumni, and Experiential Engagement

  • Develop and sustain relationships with employers, alumni, and industry professionals within assigned areas through proactive outreach, networking, site visits, referrals, conferences, and other strategic engagement.
  • Identify and cultivate internships, employment, job shadowing, project-based learning, mentorship, site visits, and other experiential opportunities aligned with student and institutional needs.
  • Oversee and coordinate the School of Engineering and Computer Science internship program, including administration and student support in partnership with ECS faculty and staff.
  • Partner with campus stakeholders and faculty to expand regional and national employer and alumni engagement.
  • Plan and execute employer-facing programs and recruiting initiatives, including industry-specific Meet and Greets, information sessions, site visits, and on-campus recruitment activities.
  • Monitor industry trends, hiring practices, recruiting timelines, workforce needs, emerging occupations, and employer expectations; translate insights into advising, programming, faculty partnerships, and career readiness initiatives.
  • Document employer and alumni engagement and partnership activity within designated Career Development Center systems to support coordinated outreach, assessment, and relationship management.
  • Collaborate closely with internship directors, clinical coordinators, fieldwork coordinators, faculty, and other academic partners within assigned Schools to support students pursuing internships and other experiential learning opportunities, recognizing and leveraging their discipline-specific expertise.

Campus Career Ecosystem & Outcomes

  • Advance the Elizabethtown College Career Action Plan within assigned areas by monitoring student engagement and using participation data to inform targeted outreach, programming, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Institutional Research and campus stakeholders to support First Destination Survey data collection and analysis and identify opportunities to strengthen post-graduate outcomes.
  • Collaborate with faculty and campus partners to integrate NACE career competencies, career readiness initiatives, and emerging credentialing or digital badging frameworks into the student experience.
  • Develop partnerships with student organizations, academic departments, alumni, and employers and curate industry-specific resources to expand career education and industry engagement.
  • Contribute to assessment, strategic planning, and continuous improvement efforts supporting Career Development Center and institutional priorities.

Career Development Center Leadership & Operations

  • Provide leadership for assigned Center-wide programs, initiatives, technologies, or functional areas based on departmental needs and areas of expertise.
  • Collaborate with Career Development Center colleagues to ensure consistent service delivery, share industry knowledge, cross-train across assigned areas, and support Center-wide events and initiatives.
  • Represent the Career Development Center on institutional committees, working groups, and initiatives and contribute to the training and supervision of student employees, interns, or Career Peers as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education and/or Experience

  • MA or MS in Higher Ed Administration, MA or MS in Counseling or similar degree

  • Career technology: Handshake or comparable career-services management/recruiting platforms

  • Data and workflow tools: Microsoft Excel and Airtable or comparable database/project-management tools

  • Career-readiness technology: Big Interview or comparable virtual interviewing/career-preparation platforms

  • Learning management systems: Canvas or comparable LMS

  • Productivity/collaboration: Microsoft 365, particularly Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Virtual engagement: Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of three years in Career Services, Employer Relations, and/or Alumni Relations

  • Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations

  • This position requires a valid driver’s license for business travel purposes (individual must have a US driver’s license for at least three years; a motor vehicle record check will be run and the incumbent must pass the College’s MVR rating system).
