About the Role The Assistant Director of Academic and Career Advising, reporting to the Director of First Year Advising, provides transformational and strategic leadership and supervision of a team of integrated academic and career advisors within the College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell. This position also collaborates to create a welcoming environment, carry out the department’s vision, and work synergistically with the Division of Student Success, faculty and academic leaders across the University. In conjunction with best practices, the Assistant Director will design, develop, update, and deliver workshops for undergraduates on topics related to major/minor selection, program requirements, career development, job search strategies, and graduate school planning. The Assistant Director will oversee office programming including immersion trips, resume initiatives, and mock interview initiatives.

What You'll Do

  • Provide transformational and strategic leadership and supervision of a team of integrated academic and career advisors.
  • Work closely with the Director of First-Year Advising and the Director of Pre-Health Advising, serving as the primary liaison for pre-health–interested students within the first-year advising population.
  • Identify and track pre-health–interested first-year students, develop and deliver targeted programming, and ensure timely, accurate guidance related to pre-health pathways and expectations.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to align first-year advising practices with pre-health needs; share resources, referral processes, and emerging trends.
  • Supervise an advising team and provide timely performance feedback; provide direction for campus advising policies in collaboration with colleges, the Registrar, and Enrollment Management.
  • Provide academic and professional (career and graduate pathways) advising through one-on-one and group sessions for assigned cohort of undergraduates; ensure degree audits and on-time graduation requirements are met.
  • Serve as an information resource for advisors, students, faculty, staff, and parents; advise on policy and procedure improvements.
  • Develop and deliver office programming related to career development, including resume initiatives and mock interviews, as well as immersion trips.

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree and experience in a high-level support or management role in higher education desired.
  • At least two years’ experience in academic advising preferred.
  • Experience in assessment, planning, program reviews, self-studies, academic advising.
  • Ability to communicate and work with diverse populations; excellent interpersonal, planning, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interpret and make recommendations for improvements in advising policy and procedure; relate well to students, parents, scholars, faculty, staff and others from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; quality community-building and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain efficient systems and processes; proactively identify potential problems and mitigate student issues for reports.

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree and experience in a high-level support or management role in higher education is preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience in academic advising preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $64,000 - $69,000 per year (USD).
  • On-campus work with in-person presence; remote work arrangements are limited by university policy.
