About this role

About the Role Reed College seeks an experienced student and alumni advisor to join the Center for Life Beyond Reed (CLBR) as Assistant Director, Advising. The role leads holistic advising across graduate school, careers, and fellowships within a collaborative team, supporting students from their first year through graduation and beyond. This is a full-time, on-campus, exempt position with standard business hours and a starting pay range of $58,000–$62,000.

What You'll Do

  • Provide 1:1 advising to guide current students toward successful post-baccalaureate outcomes across graduate school, fellowships, pre-professional programs, work, and internships
  • Design and deliver programming for students and recent grads within assigned communities: Healthcare & the Cure of Illness; STEM Research and Innovation; Pre-Health Advising
  • Coordinate and organize online content development for career pathways
  • Maintain advising notes, events, and communications with students in assigned communities through designated platforms
  • Collaborate with College Relations Advancement teams in programming for recent grads
  • Review post-appointment survey responses for continual improvement of advising skills
  • Engage faculty to deliver department-specific programming
  • Develop and maintain recruiting relationships and pipelines with key employers in assigned communities
  • Track and analyze data trends on advising caseload in collaboration with the Associate Director, Data & Systems

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in career advising, student development, or related fields; ability to support emerging professionals and help students move through transitions between on- and off-campus pathways
  • Ability to assess individual needs using DEI, universal design, and/or interdisciplinary approaches
  • Strong communication and active listening; able to help students navigate uncertainties, define purpose and narrative, develop a plan, and access resources
  • Proven ability to manage a large caseload at a rapid pace while sustaining wellbeing; comfortable adapting priorities and covering other advising needs as needed
  • Commitment to anti-racist work and integration of growth mindset in professional practice
  • Storytelling and presentation skills; ability to weave qualitative and quantitative data to demonstrate impact
  • Quantitative skills for tracking programs and outcomes and data-informed decision making for program policy
  • Ability to build sustainable developmental programs through collaboration with students, faculty, colleagues, alumni, and employers
  • Interest in workforce trends related to graduate school, fellowships, and career advising

Nice to Have

  • Advising experience in undergraduate or high school student development including planning, career development, career advising, talent recruitment, internship management, academic advising, or life skills

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $58,000–$62,000 per year; starting pay determined by experience and internal pay assessment
  • Full-time, exempt status; on-campus role with standard hours 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 1-hour unpaid lunch
