About the Role

The Assistant Design Planner supports project management, cost control, and resource tracking within Omexom Design by planning and producing schedules that integrate with Operational Business Units and wider Omexom. The role focuses on creating, updating, and managing design programmes using Primavera P6 and coordinating with design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and alignment with cost plans.

What You'll Do

  • Create, update, and manage design programmes using Primavera P6.
  • Respond to emerging issues and adapt plans accordingly.
  • Liaise with internal design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to coordinate design development phases.
  • Produce tender programmes to support bid submissions.
  • Review and administer design schedules to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
  • Collaborate closely with construction, project management, and technical teams.
  • Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with agreed timescales and cost plans.
  • Forecast resource requirements while maintaining a holistic overview of the Omexom Design Business Unit.
  • Evaluate the impact of design changes on programme delivery.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrating Omexom’s Company Values in day-to-day activities.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience on major projects within the energy sector, ideally in electricity transmission.
  • High proficiency in Primavera P6, including resource and cost loading, resource and financial forecasting, and generating graphical and tabular progress reports.
  • Strong planning and scheduling expertise; ability to build programmes from first principles and critically assess supplier schedules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of NEC3/4 contracts and their application to programming.
  • Familiarity with CDM regulations and their influence on project timelines.
  • Competent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Strong IT proficiency, especially in Microsoft Office, MS Project, and Excel (including use of functions, data lookups, filtering, manipulation, and summarisation).

Nice to Have

  • Significant construction experience on large, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of Construction Management principles.
  • Previous experience in planning for design teams or functions.
