About this role
Remote - U.S. & Canada Only | Full-Time
Compensation
- $110K USD (U.S.-based candidates)
- $110K CAD (Canada-based candidates)
Description
-
We're looking for an Assistant Controller to own the accounting engine behind a growing performance marketing agency: the close, the collections, the payables, and the controls that keep all of it clean and reliable.
-
If you see an inconsistent process and your first instinct is to fix it for good rather than work around it, keep reading.
-
This Isn’t for Everyone.
-
This is a hands-on seat with real ownership. You will not be handed a perfectly documented process and told to maintain it. You will inherit some work that is messy, make it better, and then write it down so it stays better.
You will thrive here if you:
-
Hold yourself to a high standard for accuracy, and hit the close calendar anyway
-
Are comfortable jumping into the details of a reconciliation one hour and redesigning the workflow around it the next
-
Handle ambiguity by asking sharp questions, making a call, and moving forward
-
Tell leadership what the numbers say, not just what is easy to hear
-
Want your work to be visible, measurable, and relied upon
-
If you prefer a narrow lane and a stable routine that never changes, this probably is not the right fit. If you want to build, own, and improve, you are in the right place.

About Level
-
Level Agency is an AI-powered performance marketing agency built for brands ready to shatter yesterday’s wins.
-
We help complex, high-consideration brands outperform their last result using AI, data science, creativity, and relentless iteration.
-
We specialize in markets where the stakes are high and the journeys are complex — education, B2B technology, financial services, healthcare, CPG, ecommerce, and more. Our work spans the full performance ecosystem: media planning & buying, performance creative, SEO & AI search, CRM & automation, and advanced analytics.
-
In 2025, Level acquired BAM Strategy — expanding our capabilities into digital experience, CRM strategy, personalization, and loyalty. The result is a fully integrated growth engine that connects acquisition to retention, media to lifecycle, and performance to long-term customer value.
-
Today, our 250-person team operates fully remote across the U.S. and Canada, supporting 150+ ambitious brands.
-
Your Role (and Impact)
-
As Assistant Controller, you will take ownership of day-to-day accounting execution so our Finance leadership has the room to focus on strategy. Reporting to the VP of Finance, you will run the close, manage receivables and collections, oversee payables, and enforce expense compliance, turning inconsistent processes into clean, dependable ones.
-
This is a role for an experienced accountant who is equally comfortable in the details and in improving the systems around them.
What you will do:
- Lead and continuously improve the month-end close, ensuring financials close accurately and on schedule
- Own accounts receivable and collections, managing routine activity and personally handling complex exceptions such as terminated accounts, disputes, and non-standard billing arrangements
- Oversee accounts payable operations, including vendor onboarding, payment processing, and troubleshooting issues with AP platforms
- Manage and enforce expense reporting compliance, ensuring proper coding and documentation for all corporate card and reimbursement activity
- Partner with the VP of Finance on cash flow forecasting and week-to-week cash management
- Support the implementation and adoption of new finance systems, such as collections automation and expense management platforms
- Document and standardize accounting processes to reduce manual work, rework, and errors
- Mentor and support accounting staff, strengthening the team's day-to-day capacity and resilience
- Respond to ad hoc financial questions from leadership with accurate, well-supported analysis
Requirements
-
Must-Haves
-
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
-
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including month-end close and AR/AP management
-
CPA or active CPA candidacy strongly preferred
-
Hands-on QuickBooks Online experience
-
Experience with AP or collections platforms such as Tipalti and Bill.com/Bill Spend & Expense
-
Proficiency with Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides), including comfort building and maintaining cash forecasts in Sheets
-
Demonstrated experience using AI tools, specifically Claude, to improve accounting or finance workflows (for example, automating reconciliations, drafting collections communications, analyzing variances, or building close checklists). Be prepared to share specific, real examples in your application and interview
-
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities when several deadlines land at once
-
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-finance stakeholders
-
A process-improvement mindset: you fix an inefficient workflow rather than working around it
-
Nice-to-Haves
-
Hands-on NetSuite experience
-
Experience in a marketing, advertising, or professional services agency
-
Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff
-
Experience leading or supporting finance system implementations
-
AI Expectations
-
At Level, AI is part of how good work gets done, and in Finance that means using it to move faster and see more without lowering the bar on accuracy.
We expect you to:
-
Use Claude regularly to improve real workflows, such as reconciliations, variance analysis, collections outreach, and close checklists
-
Experiment thoughtfully, share what works, and help the team adopt better ways of working
-
Review and validate every AI-assisted output. AI supports your judgment. It does not replace it, and you remain accountable for the numbers
-
Protect sensitive financial and client data in how you use any tool
-
Our Core Values
-
No Ego, All In
-
We don't do "that's not my job." We win together, step in where needed, and care more about the outcome than the org chart.
-
Better Every Day
-
We want the feedback, even when it stings. We test, learn, adapt, and keep raising the bar.
-
Relentless for Results
-
Activity is nothing without outcomes. We care about the work that moves the business forward.
-
Driven by Truth
-
We challenge assumptions, follow the data, and tell clients what they need to hear, not just what is easy to say.
Benefits
-
Perks & Benefits
-
At Level, we support our people across the U.S. and Canada with benefits designed to promote flexibility, wellbeing, and long-term growth.
-
Fully remote across the U.S. & Canada, plus monthly WFH stipend and Summer Fridays
-
Generous time off, including unlimited PTO (U.S.), competitive vacation (Canada), and parental/family leave options
-
Comprehensive health benefits, mental health support, and company-paid disability & life coverage
-
Employer retirement contributions (401(k) in the U.S., RRSP match in Canada)
-
Quarterly performance reviews and career advancement opportunities
-
Remote First
-
This role is open to U.S. and Canada residents and is fully remote. Occasional travel may be required for company events and team working sessions. Occasional evening or weekend availability may be required around month-end close. We are unable to sponsor visas at this time.
-
Level Is Built on Inclusion
-
We celebrate what makes you, you. Level Agency provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities during the recruitment process. If you require an accommodation, please let us know during your application or interview process.
-
Télétravail – États-Unis & Canada | Temps plein
Rémunération :
- 110K CAD (candidats basés au Canada)
- 110K USD (candidats basés aux États-Unis)
Description
-
