Job title: Assistant Coach - Wrestling
About the Role The Assistant Wrestling Coach supports the Head Wrestling Coach in administering a competitive NCAA Division III wrestling program at McMurry University. The role emphasizes student-athlete development, athletic achievement, academic success, and alignment with university and conference expectations.
What You'll Do
- Assist with planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices and training sessions; provide technical instruction, skill development, and individualized coaching for student-athletes; support scouting of opponents and match strategy preparation; promote a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with the institution's academic and athletic standards; maintain communication with high school coaches, club coaches, and prospective students; participate in on-campus recruiting visits and off-campus recruiting events; ensure recruiting activities comply with NCAA Division III rules.
- Assist with scheduling, travel logistics, budgeting support, and equipment management; contribute to program compliance, including roster management, eligibility protocols, and required reporting; support fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and community outreach events.
- Encourage academic success through mentoring and collaboration with campus resources; promote well-being, injury prevention, and responsible decision-making among student-athletes; model inclusive and supportive behavior reflects institutional values.
- Represent the university at athletics department meetings, campus events, and conference functions as needed; other duties as assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach or Athletics Director.
What We're Looking For
- Strong understanding of wrestling techniques, training methods, and match strategy.
- Ability to recruit effectively within NCAA Division III guidelines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Some education acceptable.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles.
- Familiarity with NCAA Division III compliance expectations.
