Job title: Assistant Coach, Track and Field
About the Role Assists in coaching, recruiting, counseling, conditioning, and evaluating for the team, and may teach courses related to varsity athletics. Supports on-field coaching, game planning, student-athlete academic performance, and program operations under the head coach.
What You'll Do
- Implement coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student athletes' skills and teamwork; analyze performance; adjust strategies; evaluate opponents; develop game strategies; plan and conduct practices; manage camps and clinics, if applicable.
- Assist with budget development, expenditure analysis, documentation and reporting; ensure compliance with university and NCAA regulations.
- Conduct promotional activities for fundraising, recruitment, public relations, and other marketing activities; attend events; prepare promotional materials; deliver speeches and presentations.
- Administer policies on academic expectations; communicate with advising staff; meet with athletes to review course loads; counsel on performance and study skills.
- Identify and develop recruitment strategy; create promotional materials; conduct recruiting trips; make recommendations on athletic aid.
- Oversee assigned course loads; prepare lesson plans; respond to inquiries; provide instruction; assess student performance and grades.
- Videotape practices and games; manage equipment inventory; drive passenger vans; maintain regular attendance; assist with training new hires; perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- At least a bachelor’s degree; one or more years of track and field coaching experience; valid driver’s license.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certifications; Annual NCAA Certification to recruit student athletes.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and university policies; office procedures; workplace safety practices.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; ability to train or instruct others; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
