The University of Utah’s College of Health, Department of Health & Kinesiology invites applications for two Career-Line teaching faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer) or Associate Professor (Lecturer), commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Successful candidates will contribute to the department’s undergraduate teaching mission through excellence in instruction, student mentorship, curriculum development, and university and professional service. Candidates should have the ability to teach and contribute to curriculum development in at least two of the following courses, or similar courses within their area of expertise:

  • Exercise Physiology ( KINES 3091)
  • Exercise Physiology Laboratory ( KINES 4301)
  • Physical Activity Epidemiology ( KINES 3670)
  • Community-Based Capstone Experience ( KINES 4900)
  • Foundations in Kinesiology ( KINES 2500)
  • Applied Functional Anatomy ( KINES 3092)
  • Biomechanics ( KINES 3093)
  • Motor Control, Motor Learning, and Development ( KINES 3550)
  • Sport Sociology ( KINES 2600)
  • Exercise/Health Psychology ( KINES 3350)
  • Applied Behavior Change ( HEDU 4250 and HEDU 6260)
  • Exercise Programming ( KINES 4465)
  • Applied Exercise Programming ( KINES 4466)
  • Training and Planning ( KINES 4690)
  • Exercise in Special Populations , including cancer and diabetes ( KINES 4680)

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of this position is teaching undergraduate courses in both in-person and online formats within the Department of Health & Kinesiology. The department prepares future leaders, practitioners, and scholars and serves approximately 1,700 students across its bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs. Undergraduate class sizes typically range from 25 to 75 students.

The standard teaching load is four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester, with opportunities for summer teaching potentially available.

In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality undergraduate courses and curricula.
  • Mentor and support students in their academic and professional development.
  • Participate in curriculum and program development.
  • Contribute to university, department, and professional service, including faculty governance.
  • Engage in activities that support the mission and strategic priorities of the Department of Health & Kinesiology and the College of Health.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in kinesiology or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Ability to effectively teach and mentor undergraduate students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in kinesiology or a related discipline.
  • Experience teaching courses in one or more of the subject areas identified above.
  • Experience with curriculum development and/or course design.
  • Experience teaching in both in-person and online environments.

  • Exercise Intervention Laboratory

  • Exercise Testing Laboratory

  • Sleep, Circadian Physiology and Cognition Suite

  • Metabolic Kitchen; Mobility and Stability Laboratory

  • Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory

  • Faculty also have access to 24 core research facilities available at the University and the opportunities to collaborate with other entities across the academic and health sciences campuses including the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, Center on Aging, Huntsman Mental Health Institute, Huntsman Cancer Institute, the Responsible Artificial Intelligence Initiative, Digital Health Initiative, College of Health Community Outreach and Engagement, among others.

  • Faculty in the Department of Health and Kinesiology have afforded success in obtaining extramural funding such as support from NIH , CDC , DOD and NSF .
