About this role

Position Title Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Emergency Critical Care

Job Summary

The faculty member is primarily responsible for providing on-site emergency veterinary coverage during assigned evening, overnight, weekend and holiday shifts, including emergency receiving and continued care of hospitalized small animal patients. During these shifts, the faculty member will work alongside and directly supervise an after-hours small animal rotating intern and clinical veterinary students while retaining ultimate responsibility for patient care. The faculty member will provide clinical and laboratory instruction for veterinary students, interns, graduate students, and graduate veterinarians in small animal emergency medicine and related disciplines. The primary teaching focus includes the clinical phase of the four-year veterinary curriculum, with some instruction within the preclinical curriculum as assigned.

The successful candidate will join a collegial Emergency and Critical Care service led by a board-certified veterinary critical care specialist along with a hospital team of dedicated faculty educators, veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and rotating interns. The service is equipped with advanced diagnostic capabilities, including digital radiography, ultrasonography, and computed tomography (CT), and is supported by a comprehensive diagnostic laboratory offering clinical pathology, parasitology, microbiology, histopathology, and necropsy services.

The Emergency and Critical Care service works closely with the Small Animal Teaching Hospital’s clinical services, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, and Dermatology, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, clinical teaching, and collaborative scholarship.
