Job title: Assembly Technicians – 2nd & 3rd Shift – Lafayette, IN
About the Role Assembly Technicians – 2nd & 3rd Shift are part of Caterpillar's Large Power Systems Division in Lafayette, IN, assembling large diesel and natural gas engines and preparing engines for testing, painting and shipping. This is a full-time onsite role with 2nd and 3rd shift options.
What You'll Do
- Assemble components and perform adjustments on diesel and natural gas engines, including sub-assemblies for prime product engines
- Prepare engines for testing, painting and shipping; operate hand tools, pneumatic tools, gauges, torque equipment, electrical testing equipment, lifting devices/cranes
- Read engineering prints and standard work, use computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Support safety, quality, and production goals; participate in the onboarding and training process
- Work on the Lafayette Large Engine facility with shift-specific schedules
What We're Looking For
- Basic qualifications: two years of professional job-related experience in auto/diesel/farm maintenance, or two years of manufacturing or two months+ via staffing agency plus six months Caterpillar Logistics experience; or a technical degree in diesel/auto/electrical/electronics/construction equipment technology
- Strong electrical and mechanical background; ability to read and interpret engineering paperwork
- Willingness to work overtime; flexible, self-directed with good teamwork and communication
- Desired: automotive mechanic experience, engine assembly/manufacturing experience, leadership experience, ASE certification for diesel or gas engines, crane experience
- Physical ability to perform job duties including lifting up to 40 pounds, standing for long periods, and working in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have
- Automotive repair or engine rebuild experience; experience operating cranes (2–100 ton) in manufacturing
- ASE certification and leadership/assembly experience
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly pay range: $23.33 - $30.33, plus 6% shift differential for off shifts
