About this role

About the Role The Academic Success Center (ASC) at the University of La Verne provides academic support across all majors and disciplines to help students become engaged, self-sufficient learners who reach their goals. The ASC Success Coaching program serves all ULV students, helping them develop skills and habits for personal, professional, and academic success. This role supports students through individualized coaching, group sessions, and collaboration with ASC staff to promote retention and student success.

What You'll Do

  • Offer individual coaching appointments and drop-in coaching, in-person and online, to help students improve time management, balance, goal setting, accountability, and academic anxiety.
  • Report accurate data for all sessions and service efforts.
  • Collaborate with ASC professional staff and campus partners to provide targeted coaching for distinct student populations (Academic Probation and Reinstatement, Living Learning Communities, Student Leaders, Accessibility Services, SOS referrals, and faculty/staff referrals).
  • Develop and facilitate class visits and workshops on holistic skills (goal setting, time management, self-organization, study skills, stress management).
  • Develop supplemental materials (ASC coaching content, student resources, social media posts, events).
  • Complete supplemental ASC activities (coach reflections, observations, co-coaching sessions, trainings).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by ASC Director and/or Professional Staff.

What We're Looking For

  • Current ULV student with a strong academic background (minimum overall GPA of 3.25).
  • Ability to communicate effectively to help students construct their own understandings of themselves and what habits will help them to be successful.
  • Desire to support peers’ social and emotional wellness, as well as their academic and professional endeavors.
  • Ability to listen to the needs of students and work cooperatively in setting realistic and productive learning goals as well as objectives.
  • Sensitivity to the diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds of ASC students.
  • Dependability, personal accountability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Self-motivation, self-regulation, and a desire to mature and learn in a professional teaching/learning environment.

Nice to Have

  • Previous academic support experience, particularly in supporting students with documented disabilities.
  • Previous tutoring experience.
  • Leadership experience and campus involvement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Benefits include one hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
  • University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
  • In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
  • Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
