Job title: ASC Logic (PHI-2301) Tutor (Work Study or Student Assistant)
About the Role The ASC Logic (PHI-2301) Tutor supports students by providing academic tutoring on an individual basis or in small groups and by helping maintain operations within the ASC. This on-site role requires coordinating weekly tutoring hours, attending training workshops, and collaborating with professors to obtain pertinent materials.
What You'll Do
- Provide academic tutoring services by maintaining a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
- Attend tutor training workshops as required.
- Keep accurate records of tutoring appointments by filing tutoring reports.
- Maintain contact with professors in your subject of expertise in order to obtain pertinent materials for the ASC.
- Assist undergraduate students with assignments.
- Tutoring appointments are intended to assist students in becoming better students.
- Assist with additional duties as needed such as, covering the front desk, scheduling tutoring appointments, answering phones, organizing materials and maintaining information in the ASC.
What We're Looking For
- Education: High school diploma/GED required; successfully completed courses in subject area tutoring with a grade of A or B at Texas Wesleyan (exceptions at Director's discretion); minimum GPA of 3.0 (exceptions at Director's discretion). Demonstrate grammar and proofreading proficiency.
- Experience: Formal or informal tutoring experience.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to maintain confidentiality (FERPA), work independently, instruct others, strong interpersonal skills, subject-matter knowledge, enjoyment of tutoring, effective communication of study strategies, comfort with diverse backgrounds, patience and positive attitude, customer service, clear phone manner, strong organizational skills, and ability to adhere to university policies. Ability to handle physical tasks as needed.
