AR/VR ELC Director (Freelance)

About the Role Paramount is seeking a San Francisco based freelance AR/VR ELC Director to lead dynamic virtual studio productions in an ELC automated control room. The ideal candidate will direct in active breaking news environments, collaborating with producers to create engaging visual newscasts and trigger AR elements in real time. This role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and the ability to pivot from coded newscasts to breaking news when moments arise. What You'll Do

• Provide leadership in and out of the control room to fulfill production needs in an ELC automated environment.
• Collaborate with 24/7 editorial and production teams to execute error-free productions.
• Code assigned newscasts and rehearse show portions with crew and talent prior to air to ensure crisp delivery.
• Verbally call shots as the anchor works in the virtual studio; trigger augmented reality objects to enhance storytelling.
• Coordinate with producers and jib operator to optimize use of virtual studio space; supervise in fast-paced, high-energy environment.
• Be willing to work flexible schedule including early mornings and holidays; implement new technologies and methods for future assignments.
• Demonstrate sound technical skills, be a self-starter with leadership qualities, and maintain excellent organizational and communication abilities. What We're Looking For
• Demonstrated experience in live news production.
• Previous Control Room Automation experience is desired; Sony ELC experience preferred.
• Knowledge of iNews preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills and a strong work ethic.
• Positive attitude, leadership qualities, and ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
• Excellent people and communication skills; strong conflict resolution and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including early mornings and holidays.
• Open to implementing new technologies or methods to accomplish future assignments.
• Experience directing in active breaking news environments is a plus. Nice to Have
• Experience with Zero Density virtual production or similar AR platforms.
• Familiarity with gear such as Sony XVS switchers, Chyron Prime/ISQ, Calrec Audio Studio.
• Comfortable working with AR/VR studio environments and related hardware. Compensation & Benefits
• Hiring Salary Range: $50.00 - 57.00 per hour.
