For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
- Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Artisan II or in a comparable and equivalent position;
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D+ (Plus) or its equivalent qualification;
- National Trade Test I Certificate in any of the following areas of specialization: Carpentry and Joinery, Turning and Fitting, Plumbing, Welding and Fabricating or its equivalent qualification from a recognised institution;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and result.
